Privacy Fences
Privacy fences are a great way to enhance the value, privacy and security of your home. While some privacy fences can cost a significant amount of moeny, there are ways to do the fencing yourself, do a great job, and still save yourself a bundle of money.
If you have an existing chain link fence with solid stable posts, you are well on you way to being ahead of the game when you put your wooden provacy fence in. Almost every home improvement store sells metal adapter brackets that allow you to mount the wooden runners on the existing metal poles in the chain link fence. By doing this, you've already eliminated a major step and expense of your fencing project--the posts. The brackets simply bolt onto the metal chainlink poles and have a flat plate with pre-drilled holes you can use to attach the lateral wooden runners. From here one, the task is fairly simple. Attach the runners and then use a cordless drill with a screwdriver bit and put up the vertical fence boards.
Buying the vertical boards in bulk--a pallet or more---is generally cheaper than buying the pre-made panels. It is true you will have to put on the individual boards yourself, but this is a very easy task and goes fairly quickly. The main thing that you need to pay attention to is to get the first board level and square so it does not throw the whole line off.
One area that it is wise to spend a little extra money on is the type of wood you are using for the fence---runners and slats. This is not an area to go cheap in. The untreated lumber is certainly cheaper in the beginning, but will cost you more money in the long run with the extra maintenance and shorter life it will have. Be sure to get the treated version of the lumber and you will have a longer lasting and almost maintenance free fence.
The privacy fence makes the backyard much more secure for pets and children and without exception enhances the appearance and value of the home and creates a more private secluded feel for the yard and home.
Enjoy your San Antonio Fence and sunbathe, picnic or just relax in the privacy of your own backyard.
